After the children were born, the family moved to Wisconsin and cleared two farms of 900 acres. John A. Wheatley named Montpelier, Wisconsin, after the capital of his native state and later served as postmaster of Ellisville, Wisconsin. He moved to Iowa in the 1880's and settled at Marne near his family. John A. Wheatley died here in 1891 or 1892 and Charlotte passed away in 1904.
