WILSON MATHIES was born in Ohio on December 20, 1843. He arrived in Marne in 1882 and was a cobbler by trade. He engaged in the shoe repair and leather business for many years in the rear of Remien's general store. He subsequently went into partnership with Frank West and they operated a shop on the east side of Washington Street. Mr. and Mrs. Mathies were the parents of nine children consisting of two boys and seven girls. Mabel Skow, lifelong resident of Marne, is the only surviving child. Mr. Mathies died in 1924 at the age of 18.
