JULIUS LANGFELDT operated the first general store in Marne. He came here from Davenport, Iowa, and entered into a partnership with Rudolph Lorenzen. They opened a general store in the fall of 1875 and two months later moved to the southwest corner of Second and Washington Streets. In 1876, a post office was authorized for the new town of Marne, and Julius Langfeldt was named the first Postmaster. The post office was located in the general store owned by Langfeldt and Lorenzen. The partnership between Julius Langfeldt and Rudolph Lorenzen was dissolved in early 1877, and Rudolph Lorenzen bought Langfeldt's interest in the general store and moved the business to the next building south. Julius Langfeldt moved west and later located in Wilson, Kansas.
