JOSEPH S. HUHN was born in Guernsey County, Ohio, on April 6, 1820. He worked as a carpenter and at age twenty-fvie, he moved to Union County, Ohio, where he remained for seven years, then moved again to Hardin County, Ohio. He remained in Hardin County, except for service in the Civil War, until 1871, when he moved to Brighton Township and purchased 160 acres in Section 1 in the northeastern corner of the township. He sold half of this land in 1872 and the remainder in 1877 and bought a house and lot in Marne. Joseph S. Huhn married Nancy Ray in Ohio on July 4, 1853, and they had five children - Clara, Millard, Mary, James and Isolena.
