HENRY HANSEN was born in Denmark on September 17, 1839. At age twenty, he traveled to Brazil, where he lived for three years, then lived in Argentina for two years. He then went to St. Louis, Missouri, for six months, then worked in the gold and silver fields of the western United States for nine years. In 1870, he returned to his native Denmark and brought his family back to America with him. Henry Hansen bought an 80-acre tract in Section 13 of Brighton Township, one mile north and three miles east of Marne. This farm was later expanded to include 400 acres. He and his wife, also a native of Denmark, had three children, Mary, Henry and Chris.
