STEPHEN N. ELLIOT was born in Elgin County, Ontario, on March 12, 1827. He married Esther Buchanan there and moved to Wisconsin in 1853: his family followed him in 1855. In 1862 the Elliots moved to Dodge County, Minnesota, and in 1868 they sold their property and moved to Brighton Township, where they bought the southeast quarter of Section 23, two-and-a-half miles east of Marne on the west side of the Elk Horn road. The Elliots had one son, Werden.
