PHILOSOPHY IN THE AFTERNOON

Let me live in a house in a little town.
In Life's afternoon til the sun goes down.
Where children play in the dusty street,
And you smile hello to each friend you meet.

Where your faults and your virtues are understood.
And people know both the bad and the good.
Where somebody cares if you come or go.
And streets lights make diamonds on new fallen snow.

Where church bells ring on a Sabbath morn.
A small island of peace in a world that is torn.
Where a heart that is broken can quietly mend.
Held safe and secure in the hands of a friend.

Where you know whatever is -- is best,
As Life's evening sun sets in the west.
Where stars blink down through eternity,
And you turn to the night with serenity.

Mrs. Eldon (Bernice) Burnside.
