George B. CADWELL, of CADWELL & Son Hardward Company, was born in Simsbury, Connecticut, April 12, 1838. With his parents he came west to Kendellsville, Indiana, when twelve years of age. He learned the tinner's trade there and then went into business for himself at Butler, Indiana. He moved to Iowa in 1866 and located at Woodbine, engaging in the same business. He moved his business to Logan in 1868 and remained there continuously until 1902, when he came to this city and bought out the McCURDY hardware business, associating with him in the business his son, Dwight S. CADWELL, who was born in Logan in 1871. Mr. CADWELL, Sr. is a member of the Iowa Legion of Honor, and has served his country in war and the people in peace in a number of school, town and township offices. He was President of Logan School Board for twelve years. The firm of CADWELL & Son is growing rapidly in public favor and its members in the esteem of the Atlantic public.

Nathaniel W. DEERING, senior member of the well-known and progressive hardware firm of DEERING & Son, Atlantic, Iowa, was born at Jackson in the state of Maine, October 23, 1840, and lived in the Pine Tree State until he was twenty years of age. Coming west he pitched his tent at Milton College, Wisconsin, and went into the army from there, enlisting and serving in the 13th Wisconsin. He re-enlisted in the field and was out four years and two months. At the close of the war he went back to Maine and learned the tinner's trade, then came to Iowa and located at Mongonia, Boone County, where he remained two years. He afterwards lived at State Center, Osceola, and Shenandoah, in the hardware business. Afterward he spent two years in Nebraska, fourteen years in Florida and some time in Southern California. He came to Atlantic two years ago bought out the THORLEY hardware stock and still owns and operates it in company with his son. He is a Mason of prominence and enjoys the distinction of being the oldest Mason in point of membership in the city, having been a Mason for more than fifty years. He is also a member of the Grand Army of the Republic.

Wilbur J. DEERING, junior member of the firm of DEERING & Son, is a Hawkeye by birth, having been born at State Center, Iowa, November 23, 1870. He accompanied his father's family to Florida and then went to Carroll, Iowa, where he engaged in the hardware business for himself. He remained in business there two years and then sold out and joined his father in business here. He is a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge, Chapter and Commandery, and is up-to-date in his citizenship and business.
