The following is some information on the McGrath family of Clarion, Iowa: John Clement McGrath was born 18 August 1877 in Ackley, Hardin, Iowa to William and Ellen (McNamara) McGrath. He died 24 November 1954 in Clarion, Wright, Iowa and is buried at St. John's Cemetery in Clarion. He came to Clarion in 1909 and was an engineer for the Chicago Great Western Railroad. He married Julia Ruth McNamara of Belmond, Wright, Iowa on 17 November 1914. Julia (McNamara) McGrath was born 11 August 1888 and died 9 March 1963 in Eagle Grove, Wright, Iowa. Julia was the daughter of John and Elizabeth McNamara. They had four sons: Francis Leo McGrath born 2 October 1922 in Clarion and died 14 September 1963 in Buena Park, Colorado; John William McGrath born 12 Feb 1916 in Clarion and died 12 October 1954. Thomas R. McGrath (born ca 1917) and James Clement McGrath (born ca 1918). At the time of the father's death in 1954, Thomas R. was a Master SGT in the Air Corps in North Africa and James C. was a Tech. Sgt. at Lowery Field, Denver, Colorado. At the time of the mother's death in 1963, Thomas was living in Roswell, New Mexico and James Clement in Victorville, California. When Francis died, James Clement was living in Tucson, Arizona.
