Martin Nervig, the son of Amund and Rachael Chelesvig Nervig, was born on a farm near Eagle Grove, Iowa on Feb. 6, 1901. He grew up on the family farm and attended the rural schools in the area. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1920 and attended Grinnell College. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He lived and farmed near Eagle Grove. On December 12, 1945, he was united in marriage with Jeanette Rasmussen at Hopkins, Minn. The couple lived and farmed on the Nervig family farm until 1963, and because of Martin's poor health, they retired from farming and moved to Eagle Grove.

He had served on the Wright County Board of Review for 13 years and had also served as a trustee of Eagle Grove Township for several years. He was a member of the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church and had served on the church council.

He died early Tuesday morning, March 4, 1986 at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa, at the age of 85 years and 28 days.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Nervig of Eagle Grove; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Helen and Mabel; five brothers, Sievert, Peter, Amos, Joe and Ole.

Funeral services for Martin Nervig, 85, of Eagle Grove, were held Friday, March 7, 1986 at 1:30 p.m. at the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul Schaedig, church pastor, officiating and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home on Thursday.
