Herman Anderson
10 April 1887 ---- 23 February 1974Herman Anderson, 86, long time Dows businessman, died Saturday morning at Golden Acres Manor in Dows. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Willim Funeral Home with Rev. David A. Anderson, pastor of First Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.
He was born April 10, 1887 in a sod hut near Jamestown, Kansas and lived there until his teens when he came to Dows. For many years he was a surveyor in this area and operated a pool hall in Dows until 1927 when he opened the Dows Greenhouse. Ill health forced his retirement in 1972 when he and his wife entered the nursing home.
On December 14, 1916 he was united in marriage to Anna Marie Nelsen. She died in June of 1972 in Clarion, Iowa.
Mr. Anderson is survived by one son, Walter of Ackley; one granddaughter, Penny Kay Anderson of Hampton and two sisters, Mrs. Oliver (Marie) Bakken of Algona and Mrs. Nemeigh (Nettie) Norem of Windom, Minnesota. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, three brothers, one sister and one son.
