Eleanor Ann Dorr
April 24, 1934 --- October 11, 2019

Eleanor A. Dorr – age 85, of Laurens, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2019, at the Laurens Care Center in Laurens, Iowa.

Eleanor Ann Dorr was born on April 24, 1934 in New Orleans, LA. She was the daughter of Earl and Elizabeth “Betty" (Kutyik) Dorr. Eleanor's early years were spent in Illinois and Belmond, Iowa where she graduated from high school. Her family eventually moved to Armstrong, Iowa where her father managed the Power Company. Eleanor was employed as a linotype operator for several years at the Armstrong Journal and you would often times catch her covering the sporting events for the paper. She will long be remembered for her ability to sew and was considered the neighborhood Barbie doll seamstress. She made many of her own clothes and everything had to match perfectly. She also participated in the community chorus and band. One of her greatest treasures was her 1957 red Chevrolet convertible. She was always happy to show it off and give rides with the top down, but only with parental approval. She loved children and spending time with them.

After the death of their parents, she and her brother, Earl Jr., moved to Burbank, California where she spent the next 35 years. While in California she worked as a trophy maker and was also employed at Cloth World and a pre-school. She loved the many things California had to offer and spoke fondly of having lived there. She also enjoyed an occasional trip to Las Vegas. The one thing that would always bring a big smile was when she was asked to tell about her lunch with Jerry Orbach! In 2009, she decided it was time to return to Iowa and has resided in Laurens for the past 10 years, five of which have been at the Laurens Care Center.

Eleanor had a love for music and was an avid reader.

Survivors include her caring family of friends at the Laurens Care Center; brother, Earl Jr., of Laurens; two nieces, Rebecca Dorr of Medford, Oregon and Jessie Howell of Oregon and one great niece, Nashira. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Elizabeth Dorr, paternal grandparents, Adolph and Anna Dorr and maternal grandparents, John and Mary Kutyik.
