Earl LuVerne Johnson
9 August 1913 ---- 6 March 1942

Earl Johnson, 29, was instantly killed Friday, March 6th, while switching in the Union Pacific yards at Cheyenne, Wyo. He got off his own engine and in front of an approaching engine which was coming so fast the engineer could not stop. The wind was blowing so hard that day Johnson did not hear the engine's whistle nor the shouts of warning from the members of the train crew.

The remains were brought to Eagle Grove and funeral services were held at the Kubitschek & Kastler Funeral Home Tuesday, March 10, with the Rev. L. M. Wilkinson in charge. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Mr. Johnson came to Eagle Grove with his mother, Mrs. Emma Johnson, in 1926. He was graduated from both the high school and Junior College. He has been working for the Union Pacific as switchman at Cheyenne for just a year. He was born in Cedar Falls, Iowa, August 9, 1913. He is survived by his mother, one brother, Arne, who is also working for the Union Pacific in Cheyenne, and one sister, Merle of Eagle Grove.

Those attending the funeral from out of the city were Miss Bettie Huebsch, Mrs. Late Huebsch, Robert Huebsch, Mr. and Mrs. Oral McCulloch, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Paulin, Mr. and Mrs. George Taylor, Ft. Dodge; Mrs. Ray Miller, Wyoming, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Belfield, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Belfield, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Ritchie and son Billy. and Mrs. Hazel Handsacker, Cedar Falls; Lawson Schwope and Cliff Midland, Cheyenne.
