Larett Carlos “Reggie” Stearns
13 January 1882 ---- 5 December 1942

Larett C. Stearns, 60, died at the home of his son, Walter, Saturday evening, Dec. 5. He had been in ill health for over a year. On Jan. 1, last year, he was pensioned by the Northwestern railroad at his own request and since that time had made his home with his son, Walter, in Eagle Grove. He served as cashier for the Northwestern here for about four years. In 1915 he was appointed agent for the railroad at Rutland, where he served until, he retired the first of last year. Mrs. Stearns died a little over a year ago.

Surviving Mr. Stearns are four sons, Walter, at Eagle Grove, Rollo, who lived in Rutland, but is now with the U. S. Navy and is stationed at Norfolk, Va., Darrell, 16, and LeRoy, 11. Both Darrell and LeRoy are making their home with Walter in Eagle Grove. Mr. Stearns is also survived by one daughter, Mrs. Lucille Davenport of DeKalb, Ill., and five grandchildren.

All of the children were present at the funeral which was held yesterday afternoon at the Ellsworth funeral home in Humboldt, with the Rev. L. M. Wilkinson of the Eagle Grove Congregational church in charge. The Masonic burial service was given by the Humboldt Masonic lodge of which Mr. Stearns was a member. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Obituary

Larett Carlos Stearns, son of Alva and Alice Stearns, was born in Wells, Minn., on Jan. 13, 1882, and passed away at the home of his son in Eagle Grove, Dec. 5, 1942, at the age of 60 years, 10 months, and 22 days.

Mr. Stearns made his home with his parents at Wells, Minn. until 1903, when he went to Vilas, S. D., where he was employed by the Chicago & Northwestern railroad. While at Vilas he married Anna Katherine Gehring and lived happily with her until her death, Nov. 9, 1941.

In 1915 Mr. Stearns and family moved to Rutland, where he was employed as depot agent until his retirement in 1941, thus completing nearly forty years of service with the Northwestern company. After his retirement, he made his home with his son, Walter, in Eagle Grove.

Besides his five children, Mr. Stearns is survived by five grandchildren, all of Rutland, and four sisters, Mrs. W. N. Henderson of Tacoma, Wash., Mrs. E. H. Sauder of Bryant, S. D., Mrs. L. H. Latham of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Tina Lane of San Jose, Calif. One sister and one brother preceded him in death.

Mr. Stearns believed in brotherly love and friendship. He was at one time active in a number of fraternal organizations, mainly the Odd Fellows and Masonic lodges. He belonged to various branches of the Masons, and formerly was a member of the Abu Bekar of Sioux City.
