Hazel Isabelle McCallum was born February 28, 1899, the daughter of John and Edith [Edyth] Pinkham McCallum at Goldfield. She received her education in the Goldfield school system and graduated from Goldfield High School in 1917.

She was united in marriage to Eddie Bygness of Goldfield, September 21, 1920, at Goldfield. The couple lived and farmed in the Goldfield area until 1947, when they moved to Renwick. While in Renwick, Hazel was the music teacher for the Vernon Township Country School, where she taught piano, organ, and voice. Mr. Bygness died in 1967. Mrs. Bygness left Renwick in 1973, and moved to the Goldfield Apartments in Goldfield.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Goldfield, and the Webster City Women's Club.

Hazel Isabelle Bygness died June 28, 1992, at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt. She had attained the age of 93 years; and four months.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Elmer (Dutch), and Ralph McCallum; and one sister, Ferne Klassie.

She is survived by her son, Harold Bygness of Goldfield; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held July 2, at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Victor V. Victoria officiated at the 1:30 p.m. service and burial was in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.
