Charles Mathias Baker
21 January 1876 ---- 5 May 1941

Funeral services for Charles M. Baker were held at the Kubitschek and Kastler Funeral Home last Thursday afternoon in charge of Rev. J. R. Tumbleson.

Charles Mathias, oldest son of James Newton and Mary Jane Baker, was born January 21, 1876 at Steamboat Rock, Hardin County, Iowa.

Here he grew to manhood and attended Eldora high school. He was married to Emma Christine Nelson on Sept. 5, 1897 at Eagle Grove.

He entered the employ of the C. & N. W. railroad at Eagle Grove in March 1899. The family moved to Estherville, where in 1905, Mr. Baker was employed by the Chicago R. I. and Pac. Railroad.

In 1906 they moved to a farm near Woodstock, Minn., and early in the year 1911, they moved to Eagle Grove, where he again entered the employ of the C. and N. W., working up to the position of car inspector in 1918.

To this union were born three sons, James, Irvin, and Marion. There remains to mourn, his wife, and three sons, nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren, three brothers, Walter, William, and Clyde Baker, two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Rownshouzen and Mrs. Frances Seldon. One sister, Mrs. Hillard, died a few months ago.

Mr. Baker united with the Methodist church in his boyhood. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen, of which he served as secretary and treasurer.

He died May 5th, at the age of 65 years, three months, and fourteen days.
