Henry William Bender
18 July 1875 ---- 1 April 1941

Henry Bender, 65, died Monday, April 1st at his home on South Iowa Avenue. For nearly 15 years, Mr. Bender had been suffering from paralysis. Just prior to his death, he seemed to be improving, but passed on Monday, suddenly without warning.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon in the Methodist church with the Revs. W. L. Breaw of Humboldt and J. B. Tumbleson officiating.

Obituary

Henry William Bender, son of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Bender, was born at Slinger, Wis. July 18, 1875. He attended the public schools of Cecil, Wis., where later he worked at the carpenter trade, living with his parents until September 1897. He moved to Fond du Lac, Wis., where he entered the employ of the C. & N. W. R. R. Here he lived for four years, then one year at Cedar Rapids and came to Eagle Grove in May 1910, where he made his home until the time of his death.

On August 20, 1908, he married Miss Mae Newman of Fond du Lac.

Mr. Bender was supervisor of bridges and buildings for the C. & N. W. railroad until June 1926, when he retired from active duty because of ill health.

Mr. Bender was a member of the Methodist church where he was a regular attendant as long as his health permitted. He was also a member of Bower Lodge A.F. & A.M. of which he was master in 1926. He was a member of the Eagle Grove Chapter, The Council, Knights Templar, and Za Ga Zig Shrine. He was also a member of the Eastern Star Lodge, and I. O. O. F.

He is survived by his wife, Mae, and a sister, Mrs. Lena Geise of Loyal, Wis., and an aunt, Mrs. Lose of Slinger, Wisc.
