Tores Coltvet
19 April 1866 ---- 15 May 1941

Tores Coltvet was born April 19, 1866 at Vats, Stavanger, Norway, to parents Bjorn and Ingeborg Koltvet. He was baptized in infancy and confirmed at the age of 15 in the Lutheran church at Vats, Norway. In April 1881, at the age of 21, he emigrated to the United States and lived a few years near Des Moines, Iowa, where he was employed by the late Rev. H. C. Holm.

On December 19, 1890 he was united in marriage to Emma Johnson of Sheldahl, Iowa. To this union were born two sons and one daughter, Peter, Milford, and Ella. Immediately after their marriage, they moved to a farm four miles west of Eagle Grove, where he has had his residence continually for fifty years. In August 1898 he mourned the death of his wife, and on April 18, 1901, he was married to Mathilda Martinson of Eagle Grove. To this union were born four sons and four daughters: Amanda, Elmer, Emma, Madelane, August, Carl, Harold, and Alice.

Mr. Coltvet had suffered from arthritis of the spine for the last two years and for the last six months was confined to his bed, when on May 15, 1941 he suffered a sudden heart attack and passed away the same day at 10 p.m. at the home of his sons, Elmer, and August, at the age of 75 years, and 25 days.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mathilda, February 24, 1939 and by one son, Carl, 18 years ago. He is survived by five sons and five daughters: Elmer and August of Eagle Grove; Peter Coltvet of Omaha, Neb.; Milford Coltvet of Madelia, Minn.; and Harold Coltvet of Rutland; by Mrs. Ella O'Brien of Pasadena, Calif.; Mrs. Amanda Van Horn of Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Emma Miller of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Madelane Gamble of Pasadena, Calif.; and Alice Coltvet of St. James, Minn.; by four brothers, Zacharias Koltvet, Norway; Nels Koltvet of Clarion; Sam Coltvet of Thompson; John Coltvet of Forest City; by one sister in Stavanger, Norway, and by five grandchildren.

Mr. Coltvet was a devoted and faithful Christian with a lifelong membership in the Lutheran church where he was entrusted for many years as a deacon. In trials and temptations of this life, Mr. Coltvet was patient and continued steadfast in his faith in God to the end and for which he has now gone to his promised eternal rest.

Mr. Coltvet was a true, dutiful, and considerate husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family, and by the many friends in this church and community.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 19, 1941 at the home and at the West Side Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. H. S. Fauske. He was laid to rest at Rose Hill cemetery.
