Goldfield Chronicle

Chas. H. Kelling died about noon Saturday at his home following more than a year of illness.

Services were conducted on Tuesday, Nov. 7th, at the home of the deceased, by Rev. C. G. McKnight, pastor of the United Presbyterian church, assisted by Rev. Robert Kessinger of the Methodist church. Music was provided by a mixed quartette from the Presbyterian church. Mrs. Craig Nelson, Mrs. Richard Reicher, Richard McCutcheon and Eldon Rasmussen.

Pallbearers were: Lynn Knight, Kenneth Knight, Faye Kelling, Alvin Kelling, Glen Kelling, D. Stephens, nephews of the deceased.

Charles Henry Kelling, eldest of the thirteen children of George and Jane Beaver Kelling, and the oldest inhabitant of Goldfield who was a native to this locality, was born on July 22, 1865, and passed away at his home in Goldfield on November 4, 1950. He is survived by five brothers and sisters.

In Nov. 1916 he was married to Agatha Cameron at Ledyard, Iowa. They made their home there for many years, and Mrs. Kelling died there in December 1933.

Mr. Kelling was a farmer, continuing his farming until his retirement a few years ago, despite a crippling handicap which became worse as time went on, and which resulted from a horse falling on him.

On August 10, 1949 he made his profession of faith, accepting Jesus Christ as his Saviour, and was baptized and received the Holy Communion from the pastor of the United Presbyterian church, in the presence of the clerk of its Session and a gathering of the family.

The next day, August 11, 1949 he became bedfast; since that day he had the constant and devoted care of his sister, Ella, and his brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kelling who stayed in the home with him. The sympathy of the church and community go out to the bereaved family at this time.
