Mrs. Amelia Brown died at her home on North Commercial Ave. Friday afternoon Nov. 24th. She had been losing strength steadily for more than a year from consumption and the end was not without anticipation by her.

She was born in New York about the year 1834. She married her first husband in that state Mr. McCoy, who was a soldier in the civil war and who died about 25 year ago. She has lived in Eagle Grove for twenty years, and seventeen years ago was married to Mr. Joseph Brown another civil war veteran who survives her death. She leaves one daughter and two grandchildren. T. O. McCoy of Swea City, the grandson, was present at the funeral which was held at the Baptist church Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. Brown was a member of the Woman's Relief Corps and her whole life was engrossed in that work. Patriotism was her ruling passion and she enjoyed nothing so much as G. A. R. days and G. A. R. doings. Every old soldier was a world hero with her, and no service she could render for his honor, pleasure, or comfort was ever withheld, Mrs. Brown was a thoroughly good, kind, true woman, and we gladly bring this tribute to her bier.

The W. R. C. ladies had charge of the funeral arrangements and neglected no service or tribute possible to pay a faithful friend and member. The burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.
