Joseph Brown was born in England Aug. 2, 1816 [1827]. He came to the United States before the civil war and enlisted in the 47th Ill. Vols. in 1861 and served until Oct. 11, 1864, when he was honestly discharged. At his death he was 92 [81] years, 9 mo’s, and 5 [4] days old.

He had lived in Eagle Grove for a number of years and his wife died here. After her death he went to the Soldiers’ Home. The remains were brought here for interment beside those of his loyal wife and the funeral was held at the Methodist church last Sunday afternoon with the G. A. R. veterans in charge, and their burial services was observed at the grave.

Mr. Brown was often visited at the soldiers home by R. France of the city and the comrades here were not surprised to hear of his death. The sands of life had run out and he has gone to the grand army above.
