Frederick Bukey Farmer was born to Washington and Sarah Ann Farmer in Dubuque county, Iowa, on July 14th, 1856. He was the youngest son of the family, consisting of five sisters and three brothers.

He moved with his family to Wright county, Iowa, in 1862 and settled in Liberty township on a farm north of Goldfield. He lived here until he was twenty-four years of age, when he was united in marriage to Mary Esther Russell on November 27th, 1879. After living with his wife's parents for one year, they established a home on a farm four miles south of Hardy, which is now known as the Omen Nervig farm. They resided on this farm until 1901 when they moved to Goldfield. They made their home here until 1930, when they moved to Marengo, Iowa, and made their home with their daughter, Mrs. Fred Madison, Jr. At the time of Mr. Farmer's passing, they were making their home with his sister, Mrs. Jennie Rowen, of Rowan, Iowa, who is now the only surviving member of his three brothers and five sisters.

Mr. Farmer passed away on February 13, 1935, about six o'clock in the morning, at the age of 78 years and seven months. He leaves to mourn his passing, his beloved wife, Mary Esther; his sister, Mrs. Jennie Rowen; three sons and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Farmer of Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. McKinley Farmer of Cedar Rapids and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Farmer, Jr. of Storm Lake, Ia.; three daughters and their husbands, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Oviatt, of Goldfield, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Madison, Jr., of Marengo, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Lockwood, of Hardy Also a daughter in law, Mrs. Edna Farmer Monroe, of Seattle, Washington. Twenty-four grandchildren and three great grandchildren, besides a large number of other relatives and friends. Four sons, Claude, Walter, Russell and Wesley have passed on before.

He was a kind and loving husband and father, always patient, especially so during his last illness, at which time his suffering seemed to be unbearable at times. He lived a useful and active life until his recent illness. He was always interested in his fellow man and the things that were for the betterment of the community in which he resided. His jovial good nature won for him many friends, his ready sympathy and soundness of judgment kept them. Our loss is unmeasurable, but our memory of him will live on in our hearts.

Funeral services were held in the Goldfield Methodist Church, Saturday, February 16, at 2:30 p. m. with the pastor, Rev. W. S. Handy in charge. Iola Klinger sang “One Sweetly Solemn Thought” by Ambrose and “Rock of Ages”, Mrs. G. G. Braden played the processional and accompanied Miss Klinger.

Interment was in the Goldfield Cemetery.
