Magnus Gunderson
24 September 1895 ---- 8 July 1937

Magnus Gunderson was born to the parents Ole and Maggie Gunderson, Sept. 24th, 1895, at Eagle Grove, Iowa, and passed away from this life at Albert Lea, Minn., Thursday morning, July 8th, 1937, at the age of 41 years, 9 months, and 14 days.

He was baptized into Christ Oct. 27th, 1895, received instruction under Rev. O. R. Sletten, and confessed his Christian faith on the 8th of August 1909. He was graduated from the Eagle Grove high school with the class of 1913.

On April 8th, 1918 he enlisted in the American Expeditionary Forces of the World War, served overseas, and received his Honorable Discharge May 13th, 1919.

On September 3rd, 1919 he was united in marriage to Miss Eleanora Doyen, who now with their two boys Lyle, age 16, and Gerald 9, survives him.

Mr. Gunderson held the position as assistant cashier of the Citizens State Bank of Eagle Grove and later of the 1st Liberty Bank of Eagle Grove. In 1923 he accepted the position of assistant cashier of the Ladora Savings Bank, and in 1927 the position of cashier of the Benton County Savings Bank at Norway, Iowa.

Mr. Gunderson had a pleasing personality, he was very friendly, a dependable businessman, deeply interested in the welfare of his community. He was a past commander of the American Legion of Benton county, had served as president of the Benton County Bankers Association, and was a highly respected citizen. On the evening of July 5th, he met with a fatal accident near Albert Lea, Minn., from which he did not recover. His passing is a distinct loss to his family and to his community, but a gain to him. He died in faith in his Saviour.

He is now survived by his wife, and their two boys, Lyle and Gerald, also by his aged father, and by four brothers, viz: Gustave, of Eagle Grove, Lawrence of Worthington, Minn., Carroll of Grants, New Mexico, and Leonard of Albuquerque, New Mexico, also by one sister, Mrs. Mabel Merritt of Alliance, Nebr.

Funeral services were held at Eagle Grove, Iowa, on Saturday afternoon, July 10th, from the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church, in which Mr. Gunderson grew to manhood. Burial was made in the Rose Hill cemetery at Eagle Grove.

Gunderson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Mrs. Anna Gunderson and son Robert of Kenyon, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gunderson and family of Worthington, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Johnson of Iowa Falls; Dr. and Mrs. R. Noble of Cherokee. Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Lars Egesdal of Elmore, Minn.; Mrs. Charles Weir, Story City; Mrs. Hobart Kaley, of Story City; Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Munson of Story City; Embert Munson of Story City; Mrs. Evertt Thompson of Story City; Mrs. Minnie Crombie and Roy Orthic of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. George Doyen, and daughter, Margaret, of Waterloo; Wm. and Joan Younie of Des Moines; Dorothy Fitzpatrick of Los Angeles; Mrs. Anna Younie of Norway, Ia.; also the American Legion members, and a large number of friends from Norway, Ia.
