Funeral services for Fred Kruger, 98, formerly of Dows and more recently of the Belmond Nursing Home, were held from the Presbyterian Church in Dows on Monday, December 13, 1982 with Rev. David Saunders officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.

Fred died Friday, December 10, 1982 at the Belmond Hospital. He was born in Germany on October 24, 1884 and at the age of seven came to the United States. He was reared and educated in Vernon township and was later united in marriage to Minnie Dermero [Deremo] on January 30, 1909. After their marriage, they farmed around Dows and in 1929 moved to Belmond and farmed until returning to Dows in 1955. In 1974 they moved to the Belmond Retirement Home and in 1977 to the Belmond Nursing Home. Mrs. Kruger died on November 19, 1978.

Surviving are two children: Charles of Alexander and Mrs. Phillip (Hazel) Tutt of Aurora, Illinois. Also surviving are two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, one half-brother and one half-sister. The Willim Funeral Home in Dows was in charge of arrangements.
