John Elmer “Jack” Beckholt
13 March 1872 ---- 14 May 1936

John E. Beckholt, better known in Eagle Grove as Jack, was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Mathias Beckholt and was born in Shelby county, Ill., on the 13th of March 1872 and passed away in his home the evening of May 14, 1936. At this time, he was 64 years, 2 months, and 1 day of age.

For some time, Mr. Beckholt had not felt the very best, but just recently thought that he was gaining, but death came very suddenly from a heart attack, it being a great shock not only to his family but to the entire neighborhood.

At the age of two he moved with his parents to Ohio, where he resided until 14 when the Beckholt family returned to Illinois, this time going on a farm in Christian county, where they remained until 1900 when they moved to Wright county, Iowa on what is known as the Odenheimer & Wright farm, southeast of Engle Grove. Jack worked in and about Eagle Grove until 1916, when he entered the employ of the C. & N. W. Ry. as their custodian of the depot and offices. He continued in this office until the position was abolished about four years ago. Jack was ever faithful to his work and was well known and liked by the railroad boys.

Besides his wife, Florence Beckholt, he leaves to mourn, one sister, Mrs. Will Curts of Worthing, So. Dak., and two brothers, Frank of San Fernando, Calif., and Will of Eagle Grove.

Mr. Beckholt was a devoted husband and will be greatly missed by his widow. He was well thought of by all who knew him and known to be honest and upright in his dealings with his fellows.

Services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Wilson Chapel and were in charge of Rev. W. L. Breaw. Interment was made in the family lot in Rose Hill cemetery.
