Ollie May Cowan Johnson

Funeral services for Mrs. Ollie Mae Johnson, 84, were held Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Kastler-Babcock-DeYoung Funeral Home, in charge of the Rev. Marion Blake. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson died early Thursday morning at Trinity Hospital, Fort Dodge, where she had been a patient for two weeks, and was critically ill during that time.

She is survived by nephew, Wm. Cowan of Valencia, Calif.; a niece, Betty Nicholson of Williams Bay, Wis.; family of her late brother, Paul Cowan; and two nieces, Patricia Adams of Arlington Heights, Ill. and Donna Kriesberg of Washington, D.C., daughters of her late brother, Clinton Cowan.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Eagle Grove Sept. 1, 1892 to pioneer Eagle Grove residents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Ben Cowan. She was graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1910 and attended and was graduated from Iowa State Normal College, Cedar Falls, with a degree in music. She taught in the music departments of the Rolfe and Eagle Grove Schools and was also a piano and organ accompanist in the Eagle Grove churches after she returned to Eagle Grove to make her home.

She was married to Lawrence Johnson of Eagle Grove in 1936. He preceded her in death.

She had lived in her own home at 116 North Commercial Ave. for many years and was an avid gardener in her later years.

She moved to the Rotary Ann Home in June 1974, where she had been a resident until her final illness.

Obituary

Ollie May Cowan, the daughter of Benjamin and May Darling Cowan, was born Sept. 1, 1892 in Eagle Grove. She was graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1910 and Normal School, Cedar Falls, as a music teacher.

She taught in the Rolfe School for a few years before returning to Eagle Grove to teach music in the schools here. She also had private classes in music.

In 1936 she was married to Lawrence Johnson who preceded her in death. She had been a resident at the Rotary Ann Home since June 3, 1974.

Ollie died Thursday, March 3, at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge at the age of 84 years, 6 months, and 2 days. She is survived by a nephew, three nieces, and four great-nephews and three great nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and an infant sister and her husband.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 5, at 1 p.m. at the Kastler-Babcock-DeYoung Funeral Home. Rev. Marion Blake officiated, and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
