Charles McKay, 69, a former Boone resident who has resided in Webster City since 1963, died at 10 p.m. Monday at the Hamilton County hospital following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Maurice L. McClun officiating and with burial in the Linwood cemetery at Boone. Graveside military rites will be held.

Charles McKay, son of Thomas and Elma Berry McKay, was born June 2, 1898, at Jewell, and was reared and educated in the Jewell community.

Mr. McKay served in the U.S. Army during World War I and for most of his service was located in France and Germany. Following his discharge from the service, he returned to the Jewell community.

He was united in marriage Sept. 1, 1921 to Mable Josephine Askvig and the couple resided at Eagle Grove for one year, then moved to Boone where Mr. McKay was employed for many years as a brakeman for the Chicago, North Western railroad.

His wife preceded him in death Sept. 27, 1961, and in 1963 he retired and moved to Webster City, his home since.

He was united in marriage Dec. 16, 1967, to Mrs. Beulah Norman Crovisier, and the couple had always resided at 1116 Cottage Road.

He is survived by his wife; a step-son and step-daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Crovisier of Fort Dodge; three step-grandchildren, Kimberly Jean, Kelly Ann and Jeffrey Martin Crovisier.

He is also survived by several nephews including Wayne, Francis and Thomas McKay, and also several nieces including Mrs. Earl (Donna) Abbott of Webster City.

He was a member of the Methodist church in Boone, the Boone Masonic Lodge of which he was a past master, the American Legion, the VFW and of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.
