Martha E. Cole was born in Schuyler Co., N. Y., on Sept. 30, 1946, and passed from this life on March 29, 1914, at the home of her daughter Mrs. E. M. Reed. On March 2nd, 1868, she was united in marriage to Charles N. Masters, and the same month they came to Iowa, where they have ever since resided. To this union five children were born, one dying in infancy. She is survived by two brothers and two sisters, a brother and sister having preceded her to the better land. Hers was a life of unselfish devotion to her family. A faithful and true wife and a loving mother has gone to her eternal reward. Besides her husband, she leaves four daughters, Mrs. James Wade, Mrs. Eugene Headington, Mrs. Frank Perry and Mrs. Ernest Reed. Also seven grandchildren and one great grandchild, all living in or near Burr Oak. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the M. E. church, Rev. O. E. Hatfield officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Burr Oak cemetery.
