Death of Mrs. Chas. Askelson.
Mrs. Myrtle L. Askelson, beloved wife of Charles Askelson, of Bluffton township, passed away last Wednesday in the Augustana hospital in Chicago, where she had been undergoing medical treatment for four weeks. About eight weeks ago she was taken very ill and her physician thought an operation would be necessary and she was taken to Mercy hospital at Cresco, but the blood test went down so fast that an operation could not be performed without transfusion of blood, and four weeks ago last Monday she was taken to the Augustana hospital in Chicago where she underwent an operation for appendicitis and gallstones. Later gangrene set in, but this was checked, and then peritonitis set in, which caused her death.
Myrtle L. Gillman was born August 6, 1893 in Canoe township, and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Gillman of Decorah. She moved here with her parents in 1901 and on April 26, 1916 she was united in marriage to Charles Askelson, who with two sons survive. She is also survived by her parents, three sisters, and one brother. The death of this young wife and mother is a sad blow to the bereaved husband, and the sympathy of all is extended to him. She was a fine young woman and was highly thought of by all who knew her and her early taking away brings sorrow to all.
The remains were brought to Cresco Saturday and the funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 from the Norwegian Church in Orleans. Rev. Normann of Cresco officiated.—Decorah Public Opinion.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she died May 1, 1918 and is buried in Orleans Lutheran Cemetery.
