David Barker was born at Montreal, Canada, Nov. 20, 1948{sic}, and passed away to the great beyond at Sanborn, Iowa, Tuesday, Nov. 11th, after an illness of only a few hours. He had been about his duties at the Crandall hardware store the day prior, and seemed to be in his usual health on retiring the evening before. Although his rest was broken he did not complain of illness until he came down stairs the following morning. A physician was summoned and all one possible to relieve his sufferings but he died at 10 o’clock, death being due to acute indigestion. In early childhood he came with his parents to Burr Oak, where he received his early education. At the age of fifteen the family moved to Frankville, where for a number of years he engaged in agricultural pursuits. On August 16, 1870, he was united in marriage to Miss Lydia Cochran of Ludlow. To this union was born 10 children four of whom died in infancy. In 1895 the family moved to Sibley and nine years later to Sanborn, where they have since resided. Mr. Barker affiliated with the Masonic order in 1875 and held many honorary offices. He was a member of the Royal Arch Chapter at Sibley, a Past Master of Onyx Lodge No. 419 of Sanborn, also Past Worthy Patron of its auxiliary Coral Chapter No. 41, O. E. S. He was a devoted husband and father and a loyal friend. There remains to mourn his death his wife and six children, all of whom were present at the obsequies but one, C. W Barker of Corvallas, Oregon, Mrs. G. W. Pattock of Miles City, Montana, D. E. Barker of Charles City, Iowa, Mrs. C. A. Glazier of Sanborn, Mrs. H. B. Jackson of Grand Island, Neb., and Mrs. N. J. Crippen of Primghar, also three half-sisters and two half-brothers. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church Nov. 13th, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. L. Lease, and the Masonic fraternity, with burial in the Roseland cemetery.

Mrs. J. J. Van Wey was called to Sanborn Wednesday by the death of her brother Dave Barker. She returned Saturday.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born Nov. 20, 1848 and died Nov. 11, 1913. He is buried in the Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn, IA.
