Suicide at Calmar.
Monday afternoon Dr. M. D. Jewell received a telephone message from Dr. Heflin at Calmar stating that Lars Helgeson had committed suicide by hanging and asked if he desired to hold an inquest. Upon being assured that it was clearly a case of suicide it was not deemed necessary to hold a formal inquest. The unfortunate man lived a half mile south of Calmar, near the Methodist cemetery, and was a single man, about forty years of age. He had lately returned from the west where for four years he had been engaged in herding sheep. For some time he had shown symptoms of mild mental derangement and the cause of the act was undoubtedly temporary insanity.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born July 11, 1864 and died Feb. 14, 1913, which would be in error as this newspaper article is dated Feb. 6, 1913. He is buried in the Calmar Lutheran Cemetery.
