THE SILENT REAPER.
MARTIN E. HANSON
On Monday morning last, about nine o’clock, after an illness of only five days from pneumonia, M. E. Hanson passed away at his home in the fifth ward. So quickly did death come that many had not learned of his illness when the news came to them that he had passed away.
Martin E. Hanson was born on August 18, 1854, in Hedemarken, Norway, and came to America with his parents at the age of sixteen years. They settled at Bear Creek, in Sauk county, Wis., and engaged in farming. In 1877 Mr. Hanson was married to Ellen Anderson They continued to reside in Wisconsin until eight years ago when they came to Decorah to reside. With his son Edward, Mr. Hanson engaged in the grocery trade, but upon the formation of the partnership of Tracy & Hanson, in which his son participated, Mr. Hanson retired from business. During his residence here he has made many acquaintances and, being predisposed to seek the better things in life he established himself firmly in the esteem of all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, one daughter (Mrs. Henry J. Ellingson of Spring Green, Wis.,) and two sons, (Edward and Marcus). In their bereavement the family have the sympathy of the community.
The funeral was held yesterday afternoon. Rev. O. E. Schmidt conducted prayer at the home at 1:30, and at 2:00 o’clock service was held at the United Lutheran church, interment being made in the Norwegian cemetery.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he died March 4, 1912. He is buried in the Lutheran Decorah Cemetery.
