George Smith received word by telegram last Sunday that Orlando Blanchard was dead and they were shipping his remains here to be laid at rest in the Burr Oak cemetery one day this week. His son Frank came. It will be remembered by his many friends here that about two years ago he went to Bozeman, Mont., to be with his children.

On Wednesday morning, Jan. 31, at the Advent Christian church occurred the funeral of Orlando Blanchard, a well known and highly respected former resident of this community. Mr. Blanchard died the night of Jan. 27 in his rooms on east Main street, Bozeman, Mont., where he had, with his sons, removed from his homestead on the East Flathead country the first of the week. Old age was the chief cause of his death. His son, F. A. Blanchard accompanied the remains, which arrived in Decorah Tuesday, Jan. 30th, and were brought to the home of George Smith near Burr Oak. Orlando Blanchard was born in Illinois on May 24th, 1838, and moved to Decorah, Iowa, in 1848, at the time when Decorah was still an Indian village. On July 3rd, 1863, he was united in marriage with Miss Isabelle Kennison, beside whose grave he was buried as she preceded him in death a number of years. Mr. Blanchard in his young life became a member of the Advent Christian church of Burr Oak, and up to the time of his death was held in esteem by its members. In 1907 he moved to Gallatin county, Montana, after living in California for four years. He leaves to mourn his loss four children, F. A. Blanchard, D. D. Blanchard, Mrs. Lizzie Stevens, Mrs. Edna Stevens, all of Gallatin county, Mont. He leaves besides his children one sister, Mrs. Joe Safford of the same place. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. E. Kess and were attended by a large number of friends of the deceased. These all extend their sympathy to the bereaved.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born May 24, 1838 and died Jan 27. 1912.
