In Response To: REASBY or REESBY (Gennie)

Found the following marriages all in Mahaska County, Iowa (nothing in Wapello)

Henry Reasby married Mary Blakey on 21 Oct 1896
Lewis Reasby married Lucy E. Boyles on 9 Jul 1896
Noah Reasby married Annie Brent on 31 May 1895
William Reasby married Sarah James Sneade on 23 May 1888
Mary Reasby married J.H. Carter on 23 Jul 1888
Pauline Reasby married Howard Ashby on 5 May 1889
Pauline Reesby married Joe D. Lovings on 24 Nov 1885
Julia Reesbee married William Garland on 6 Apr 1883

The following is from the Monroe County WPA records:

Lucy E. Reasby (Mrs. L.) 1876 to April 7, 1910 buried in Buxton Cemetery, Bluff Creek Township
Sallie Reasby 1860 to September 10, 1919 buried in Oak View Cemetery, Albia, Iowa

You do not indicate the background of your Reasby families, but, if they lived in Buxton, they would most certainly have been of African-American heritage. Buxton, Iowa has a very interesting history. There have been several books written on the topic. You should be able to check out books about Buxton at your local library.
