During that time he emigrated to Illinois, purchased a farm in Montgomery County and remained on it until 1845. His wife, the mother of our subject, after the demise of her husband, returned to their farm in Montgomery County, Ill where she lived several years and then removed to Litchfield Ill where she died at the advanced age of seventy-one years, in October 1882.

JEROME DIAL FERREE then came to Ottumwa Iowa and organized the Ottumwa Loan and Building Association and in 1881 he organized the Iowa Mutual Aid Association of Ottumwa and has served as Secretary of the two latter companies since they were organized.
