BERT BROOKS

Bert L. Brooks, 81, of 858 Ellis, died today at 6:15 a.m. at Jefferson Square Manor following an illness of several weeks.

A retired farmer, he was the son of Jerome and Susan Ross Brooks. He was born in Wapello County, Feb. 21, 1885 and had lived in Ottumwa since 1954. He was a member of Mount Zion Methodist Church.

He was married in 1908* to Treacy Ross, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Erwin S. Brooks of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren including Donald Brooks of Birmingham and Mrs. Mabel Overturf of Drakesville, who were reared in the family home; 10 great-grandchildren and one brother, Ross Brooks of Miles City, Mont. Preceding him in death were four brothers and one sister.

The funeral will he held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Brooks Cemetery west of Ottumwa.
