Joseph 'Joe' Walter Finney

Joseph Finney, son of Robert and Helen Hootman Finney, was born April 20, 1963 in Omaha, Nebr. Joe graduated from the Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and the Des Moines Area Community College Des Moines, Iowa. He was a registered surgical nurse at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

On March 5, 1983 he was married to Dena Runge in Cedar Rapids. The couple moved to Des Moines approximately four years ago where he finished his education. He died Thursday, Feb. 9, 1989 at his home.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Walter and Emma Hootman. He leaves his wife, Dena; two sons, Joseph Walter and Nicholas Andrew; one daughter, Nichole Marie, at home; his parents, Robert and Helen of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Gina Finney of Des Moines; his paternal grandparents, Raymond and Nellie Finney of Keosauqua and Leona Rhynas of Ft. Smith, Arkansas.

The body was cremated.

A memorial service was held at Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, Feb. 11, 1989. Graveside service and interment of cremains will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, 1989 at 2 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Hwy. 16, East, Douds, Rev. Stephen Metcalf-Conte officiating.

Finney service set in Douds

DOUDS - A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Zion Lutheran Church east of Douds for Joseph Walter Finney, 25, who died Thursday, Feb. 9, 1989, at his home in Des Moines.

A funeral service was held Saturday at Teaten Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. The body has been cremated. The Rev. Stephen Metcalf-Conte will officiate the Douds service.

Finney was born April 20, 1963, in Omaha. He was the son of Robert and Helen Hootman Finney. He visited relatives frequently in the Douds area while growing up.

He graduated from Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids where he was city wrestling champion in his weight class and qualified for state tournament. He graduated from Des Moines Area Community College and was a registered nurse at Mercy Medical Center. He married Dena Runge March 5, 1983, in Des Moines.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons Joseph Walter and Nicholas Andrew, a daughter Nicole Marie, all of Des Moines; his parents of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Gina Finney of Des Moines; and grandparents Raymond and Nellie Finney of Keosauqua and Leona Rhynas of Fort Smith, Ark.

Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, is in charge of arrangements.
