Charles U. Rinaberger

Charles U. Rinaberger, so of Stephen and Vernie Blanchard Rinaberger, was born October 27, 1902 at Milton and died the evening of Wednesday, May 10, 1989 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua, at the age of 86.

He graduated from Milton High School and went to work for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy railroad there. He completed 49 years of service with the Burlington, serving Iowa and Missouri communities including Cantril and Farmington, where he had lived since 1959.

Charlie was a member of the Farmington United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Cantril Lions Club, and a member of Mount Moriah Lodge No. 27, Ancient Free Accepted Masons, Farmington, and Clinton Chapter No. 9, Royal Arch Masons, Ottumwa Council No. 31, Royal and Select Masters, and Malta Commandery No. 31, Knights Templar, all of Ottumwa.

He had served as town clerk and was a volunteer fireman in Cantril and was active in the renovation of Indian Lake Park at Farmington.

Charlie married Ruth McConnell February 14, 1926 at Humeston, Iowa. She died in 1981. Also preceding him in death were a daughter, Barbara, a great granddaughter, Ginny Renee Easton, a brother, Cyril, and a sister, Maude Carpenter.

Surviving are two sons, Phillip and his wife, Vivian of Cedar Rapids and Stephen and his wife Kathy of St. Louis, Mo., four grandchildren, Karen Easton and Steve Jr., Scott and Kristin Rinaberger, a great grandson, Philip Easton, a nephew, Donald Rinaberger, Fairfield, other relatives and friends.

He had donated his body to the University of Iowa Medical School. A memorial service was held Saturday, May 13, 1989 at 1 P.M. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Gerald Caughron officiating. Masonic services were in charge of Mt. Moriah Lodge No. 27. Interment of cremains will be at a later date in Sunnyside Cemetery, Milton.
