N. Dale Smith

N. Dale Smith, 90, of Fairfield died at 2:52 a.m. Oct. 7, 1989, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

He was born Oct. 18, 1898, in Gorin, Mo., to Walter and Bertie Troter Smith. He married Jessie Groves on Oct. 18, 1922 in Fairfield.

He lived in Keosauqua before moving to Fairfield 30 years ago. He worked for 20 years on the Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Keosauqua Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Wayne E. of Fairfield and James P. of Burlington; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Francis Smith of San Diego, Calif.; and four sister, Marie Power of Keokuk, Augusta Russell of Gorin, Mo., Una Thurlo of Bosworth, Mo., and Geneva Rowe of mt. Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer and Wayne.

The service was held at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 9, 1989 at Behner Funeral Home, the Rev. Bonifacio Mequi officiating. Burial was in Pittsburg Cemetery near Keosauqua. Memorials may be made to First Methodist Church or American Heart Association.
