Orpha A. Plowman

Orpha Aletha Barker Plowman, daughter of Hugh and Anna Saunderson Barker, was born February 11, 1893 at Mt. Zion, Iowa and died Monday evening, April 24, 1989 at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center, Keosauqua at the age of 96.

She graduated from Keosauqua High School in May, 1911, attended Summer school in Keosauqua and taught school for eight years.

On May 31, 1919 she married Frank Plowman. He passed away June 8, 1961. They farmed many years south of Douds, and Orpha's entire life was lived in Van Buren County.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Douds, had been active in United Methodist Women and had been a long-time Sunday School teachers.

Surviving are two sisters, Hazel Roush and Clair Roush, both of Keosauqua. Four brothers and a sister preceded her in death.

Graveside services were held Thursday, April 27, 1989 in Leando Cemetery with Reverend Harold Harryman officiating. Memorials to Christ United Methodist Church, Douds, Selma United Methodist Church or charity of donor's choice may be left at Pedrick Funeral Home in either Douds or Keosauqua.
