Gerald Burns

Memorial services for Gerald "Buzzy" Burns, 73, Bonaparte, were held Tuesday, January 2, 1990 at the Hofbauer Funeral Home in Farmington. The Reverend Fred Malone officiated.

Mr. Burns died at 6:02 p.m. Friday, December 29, 1989 at Veterans Medical Center, Iowa City. The body was cremated. Burial will be in Vale Cemetery near Bonaparte.

Mr. Burns was born April 22, 1916 at Bonaparte. He was a rural mail carrier for 32 years. He was a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association, the Bonaparte Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was also a member of the American Legion.

On July 28, 1937 at Kahoka, Missouri he married Irene Proper, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Gerald at Fort Smith, Arkansas; two daughters, Carole Nickerson, Gulfport, Mississippi and Linda Rempe, Omaha, Nebraska; two brothers, Dean of Bonaparte and Charles of Belleville, Illinois; a sister, Vanetta Simmons, Aurora, Colorado; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. His parents were Walter and Sadie Workman Burns.

A memorial is being established with the Bonaparte First Responders. Contributions may be made at the Hofbauer Funeral Home.
