Forrest Hanshaw

Forrest Hanshaw, son of Grant and Winifred Miller Hanshaw, was born June 27, 1899 near Douds and died Monday, February 15, 1988 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua at the age of 88.

He spent his life farming near Douds and for many years drove a school bus. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He had served the church on various boards, for many years taught the high school Sunday School Class, had served as Sunday School Superintendent, and sang in the choir. Forrest married Bessie M. Smith May 21, 1922 at Douds. She died in 1982. His parents, a sister, Alma, and a daughter, LaVon Davis also preceded him in death.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna Ruble, Prescott, Arizona, four grandchildren, Dennis Ruble, Cedar Rapids, Janis Thompson and Lyn Williams, both of Ottumwa and Pamela Miglio, North St. Paul, Minn. and six grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Della Nichols of Douds, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Friday, February 19, 1988 at 11 a.m. in Christ United Methodist Church, Douds, Rev. Stephen Conte officiating. Interment will be in Leando Cemetery. A memorial has been established for his church in care of Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds. the family will be at the funeral home 7-8 p.m. Thursday, February 18.
