Madeline M. Eden

Madeline M. Eden, daughter of Samuel and Sadie Garrett Nelson, was born Feb. 27, 1926 in Van Buren County and died the morning of Sunday, Feb. 21, 1988 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City at the age of 61.

She graduated from Milton High School, attended Parsons College in Fairfield and taught in the Mt. Zion, Brown Cottage, Troy and Winchester Schools. Later in life she attended Burlington Beauty Academy and had operated a beauty shop in Farmington for 19 years.

She was a member of the Bonaparte United Methodist Church.

Madeline married Frederic J. Eden June 5, 1949 at Milton. They have lived their married life in Harrisburg Township north of Bonaparte.

Surviving are her husband, Fred, a daughter, Cathy Schmitt and her husband, Arthur of Hillsboro, two sons, Richard and his wife, Cynthia and John and his wife, Dayle, all of Bonaparte, and eight grandchildren, James and Michael Schmitt and Shelley, Amy, Kristie, Eric, Erin and Kyle Eden. Also surviving are a sister, Catherine Bickel of Springfield, Mo., four brothers, Sam Nelson, Jr., Bonaparte, Archie Nelson, Albia, Leroy Nelson, Blakesburg, and Pete Nelson, Milton, other relatives and friends

her parents, a son, James, and two brothers, Harold and Joe Dale Nelson preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1988 at 2:30 p.m. in the Farmington United Methodist Church with Rev. James Rozendaal and Rev. Kenneth Harden officiating. Interment was in Vale Cemetery north of Bonaparte. A memorial was established for the Bonaparte United Church. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
