Jerry L. Hootman

Jerry Lee Hootman, 44, Antlers, Oklahoma, died Saturday, April 23, at his home. He had been in ill health for the past three years from cancer.

He was born on April 24, 1943, at his parents home, near Batavia, the son of Keith C. and Doris L. Haney Hootman. He lived most of his life in the Birmingham and Keosauqua area. He raised horses and enjoyed farming and ranching.

He graduated from the Keosauqua High School in 1961 and served in the U.S. Army from December, 1964, until December, 1966.

He lived in the Mt. Zion Community, south of Birmingham, until moving to Oklahoma, where he managed a ranch near Antlers.

He married Diane E. Elder on November 30, 1979, at the First Christian Church in Fairfield. Diane worked at the Reiff Grain and Feed prior to her marriage. Jerry attended the Kasoma Church of Christ in Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Surviving are his wife, Diane, two daughters: Tracie L. Hootman, 8 and Crystal L. Hootman, 5, both at home. His father Keith C. Hootman, Fairfield, one brother, Kendall Hootman, Iowa City and his grandmother Ina Hootman, Fairfield, plus several other relatives; Diane's family, Mrs. Peggy Elder and Lori Elder, Fairfield and Donna Rose.

Following cremation in Oklahoma, memorial services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 4, at 2:00 p.m. at the Burch-Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham, with Rev. Shirley Rozendaal officiating. Interment of ashes will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established and may be left at the Burch-Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham.
