Mary Frances Hamlin

Mrs. Mary Frances Hamlin, age 80, former Chillicothe resident, died Friday, April 29, 1988 at Meyer Nursing Home, affiliated with John Knox Village East, Higginsville.

Mrs. Hamlin was born March 15, 1908 near Jamesport in Daviess county, the daughter of Johnathan Kelley and Anna Hill Eads. She married Douglas A. Hamlin, October 5, 1927 in Chillicothe. Mrs. Hamlin was a substitute teacher and a medical clinic bookkeeper. At the age of 12 she joined the Methodist Church, Lock Springs, and remained active in the Methodist faith, transferring her membership as she moved and belonging to the Chillicothe United Methodist Church. She attended the Clear Creek rural school, graduated from Lock Springs high school in 1925 and attended the State Teachers College at Marysville, now Northwest Missouri State University. The Hamlins resided in Illinois before locating in Farmington, Iowa where they remained 27 years, moving to Chillicothe in 1973. Mrs. Hamlin was a member of Mizpah chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Farmington, Iowa, being honored as a 50 year member June, 1976; and Chapter T, P.E.O., in which she served in several capacities.

Mrs. Hamlin was interested in collecting and polishing rocks and stones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1978, an infant sister and three infant brothers.

Surviving Mrs. Hamlin are a son, Robert of Boulder, Colorado; two grandchildren and a sister, Xena Johnson, Marionville.

Funeral services were held May 3, 1988 at the Lindley Funeral Home with the Reverend Earl Griffith officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Memorial Garden.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the Order of Eastern Star or the P.E.O. Sisterhood. These may be left at the funeral home.
