Irene Ellen Baker, 79, of Memphis, Mo., died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at the Kirksville Osteopathic Hospital.
She was born Oct. 23, 1907, in Scotland County, the daughter of Oley Eldon and Hannah Price Baker.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Memphis, was a graduate of Memphis High School and held a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. She was a school teacher for 47 years prior to her retirement, having taught school in Scotland and Clark counties.
She was an elementary principal at Rutledge and Alexandria, Mo. She was a charter member of the Scotland County Area Retired Teachers Association, serving as secretary/treasurer of the organization; and also was a past member of the Memphis Business and Professional Women's Club and the Sunshine Club.
Survivors include brothers Harry E. of Edina, Mo. and Paul E. of Cantril, Iowa; and sister Mrs. Richard (Anna Mae) Ferguson of rural Memphis.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh and Frank.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Payne-Gerth Chapel in Memphis with the Rev. Kenneth Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the Memphis Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church.
