James Lawrence Shufflebarger

James Lawrence Shfflebarger, 68, son of Gladys and John Shufflebarger was born Nov. 23, 1918, and departed this life Nov. 12, 1987. James would have been 69 years of age this coming 23rd.

Born and raised in Cantril, he graduated from Cantril in 1936.

In 1938, he joined the Navy for four years and soon after was called to service with the U.S. Army during World War II.

After his service years, he joined his father and mother in Purdin, Missouri, and later on to Donnellson, Iowa where he was employed as a bridge builder for the government. He later joined his sisters in Kansas City, Missouri, where he remained for the next 40 years as a self employed painter and maintenance.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Donnellson, Iowa and later attended services at the Marlborough Methodist in Kansas City and participated in Senior Citizens activities.

James became ill in February 1986 and had been in failing health ever since. He passed away at the Veterans Health Center in Leavenworth, Ks.

He preceded his mother and father and one nephew.

James is survived by his four sisters, Joanne, Glenna, Barbara and Marjorie, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and 3 brothers-in-aw, Bob, Shin and Pete.
