John Frederick Morti.

Fred Morti was born in Langenthal, Canton, Berne, Switzerland, April, 27, 1850, and came with his parents to this country in the spring of 1855 and settled in Farmington, Iowa.

He was united in marriage with Annie Norton August 9, 1876, and to this union was born one daughter, Margaret, who preceded him in death. His wife passed away at Memphis, Tenn., Feb. 24, 1880.

He was married again at Memphis, Tenn., Feb. 24, 1882, and to this union was born a son who is supposed to be living in that city.

He came to Bonaparte in 1894 and has resided here ever since. In January 1899, he wasmarried to Cahterine Jane Cox, and she passed away in 1914. He leaves one son and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Margaret Guess of Bonaparte; one brother, William, of Lanham, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. Caroline Moore of Bonaparte and numerous other relatives and friends.

When a babe he was baptized in the German Lutheran faith. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Bonaparte which had charge of the funeral service, Rev.Alfred Trenerry of Aurora, Ill., making the address.

For several years his health has been failing, but he has consistently remained on duty. Finally on Monday, August 23, he did not come to the post office as usual. A messenger was sent to his home where he recently had lived alone, and found him lying unconscious on the floor. Death came on the following day without his having regained consciousness. He had been down town as usual Monday morning however, and had taken his horse to the blacksmith shop.

Mr. Morti had been mail carrier on route one, Bonaparte, since the rural route was started, surely a long service in that position. His familiar figure will be greatly missed in that capacity. There are very few mail routes in the country which have been covered daily by the same man for the number of years that Mr. Morti has faithfully served route one.
