OBITUARY

FRANK MARESKA

Funeral services for Frank Mareska, 93, a resident of Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center for the past two months, and formerly of 3407 W. Washburn Road, Waterloo, were held Saturday, April 4, 1998, at HagartyWaychoff-Grarup Funeral Service/South Street in Waterloo. Private burial took place Monday afternoon, April 6, 1998, in Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer.

He died Wednesday, April I, 1998, at Covenant Medical Center of a stroke. Frank Mareska was born July 4, 1904, in Chicago, III., the son and oldest child of Joseph and Anna (Kratochvil) Mareska, who immigrated from Czechoslovakia.

He attended school until he was 14 years old. Then he worked at various jobs in Chicago. Wanting to become a farmer, he went to work on a farm near Bruno, Neb. Later he worked for Joseph Kubik on a farm north of Traer where he met his
future wife.

On Sept. 6, 1926, Frank and Alba Kubik were married in Traer. They farmed east of Hudson in Black Hawk County. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Aug. 31, 1986. Following his retirement from farming the couple continued living on the farm, where he enjoyed gardening, grafting trees, reading and watching sports on TV.

He was a 50-year member of Horymir Lodge #86 of Traer.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Alba, who died May 25, 1989; one sister, Ella Cech; three brothers, Joseph, James and Thomas and one half-sister, Helen Knezovich.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ervin J. (Irene) Hanus of Traer; one son, Thomas of rural Waterloo; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
