OBITUARY

HELEN EWOLDT

Funeral services for Helen M. Ewoldt, 85, of Traer were held Tuesday morning, April 20, 1999, at Traer United Methodist Church with burial in Oneida Cemetery, rural Clutier. The Rev. Rick Vesely officiated with music provided by Joleen Edwards, organist and Mark Keefer, vocalist. Helen died Friday, April 16, 1999, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer. Casket bearers were Stanley Dostal, Loren Ewoldt, Royce Ewoldt, Dale Schmidt, Niels Schmidt and Gary Karkosh. Floral tributes were handled by Mr. and Mrs. Harold Vorba and Mr. and Mrs. Max Morrison.

Helen M. Ewoldt was born near Dysart, IA May 12, 1913. She was one of five children born to August and Mary (Kessler) Kersten. Helen received her education at Dysart Schools graduating in the Class of 1929 and then continued her education at Gates Business College in Waterloo.

On Jan. 31, 1934, Helen was united in marriage to Edwin Ewoldt at the Peace Evangelical Church at Dysart. Helen and Edwin began their married life farming near Dysart before moving to farm southeast of Traer. In addition to raising her family, Helen was an active member of the Traer United Methodist Church and the Perry Township Homemakers.

Other free moments were spent enjoying her family and spending time with friends. She enjoyed sewing and was an accomplished quilt maker and had made a quilt for each of her grandchildren. Following their retirement Helen and Edwin moved to Traer to make their home where Helen continued to live following Edwin's death June 2, 1990.

In recent months Helen's health failed and she just recently became a patient at Sunrise Hill Care Center at Traer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; a grandchild, Dawn Bratton; a great-grandchild, Parker Craig; two sisters, Agnes Schmidt and Lois Kersten. Helen is survived by her daughter, Donna Jean Bratton of Atkins; her son Gary and his wife, Sally of Davenport; a brother Oryne Kersten of Dysart and a sister, Estella Waterbury of Waterloo; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established. Overton Family Funeral Homes, Traer was in charge of arrangements
